Their armed robber husbands die in their latest heist and now their wives have to pick up where they left off to settle their husband’s debts… or they’re proper f****d!
A police shootout leaves four thieves dead during an explosive armed robbery attempt in Chicago. Their widows — Veronica, Linda, Alice and Belle — have nothing in common except a debt left behind by their spouses’ criminal activities. Hoping to forge a future on their own terms, Veronica joins forces with the other three women to pull off a heist that her husband was planning.
An all star cast delivering some real eye catching performances in this unexpected gem of a movie. I went into this film expecting this to be more PC nonsense and for it to show the widows as hard core bad arses who were going to show the men how it’s done, and I couldn’t have been more wrong!
What was particularly great to watch was how these women’s lives were totally turned upside down and their absolute heartbreak at their losses of their beloveds, and then you see how vulnerable and out of their depth they are when they suddenly find themselves thrust into the criminal world of their late husbands.
Preyed upon by criminals who have outstanding debts from their husbands that they want settled, these women have no option but to risk it all. You see them make mistakes, resort to desperate measures and do things they never thought they were capable of in order to stay alive.
It was so great to see a movie showing how strong women can be without being preached to with toxic feminism.
In all honesty, it’s hard to find too much fault with this film. By no means is it a perfect movie and any issues I had with it were so minimal that I’d really just be nitpicking.
SCORE : 9/10
A really great film and such a shame it kind of went under the radar at the cinema. An absolutely stellar cast and one of those films that had you gripped from start to finish.
What do the others say?
Don’t just take my word for it, have a look to see what the big players like Rotten Tomatoes (RT), IMBD and Meteoritic are saying. This film is too new for an honest trailer so have a butchers as behind the scenes interview with the film’s director, Steve McQueen… no, not the white one, he’s dead, the black one.
