The superhero who has been mocked for decades now has his own film and no on will will be taking the piss out of him after it.
$160 – $200 million
Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal, Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people — and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm’s half-human, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep.
Yeah OK, so Aquaman is finally a cool dude and now he has his own stand alone film to prove it. This is the most comic book looking DC movie to date and is as far removed from Snyder’s Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman, that’s it’s hard to even consider they are from the same franchise.
Visually, it’s stunning and the underwater special effects are ground breaking, it really is eye candy from start to finish… and I’m not just talking about the delicious Nicole Kidman or the scrumptious Amber Heard. Jason Momoa is as charismatic as ever, you simply can’t help but like this dude.
So, if you like Marvel films but you wasn’t keen on Synder’s take on the DC characters, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this movie.
DC, even with their rich history of classic superhero films like the immortal Richard Donner’s Superman 1 & 2 and Tim Burton’s Batman, I’m struggling to wonder why DC are trying to emulate Marvel’s approach to superheroes.
OK, I get it, Marvel have been successful for 10 years now and they are churning over some serious dosh but when you are a comic book fan (which I am) you understand that DC and Marvel are polar opposites.
I absolutely loved Snyder’s take on Superman and Batman and the DC universe he was building was appreciated by nearly all DC fans, so to see DC lose their bollocks and go all shiny, shiny, Marvel feels like a kick in my balls to be honest.
SCORE : 6/10
Too Marvel-esque for my liking.
What do the others say?
Don’t just take my word for it, have a look to see what the big players like Rotten Tomatoes (RT), IMBD and Metacritic are saying. A little behind the scenes video over on the right to enjoy.
